About Us

The Colorado Chapter

is the only chapter of the national organization in the state.  We are a true grassroots effort comprised of concerned citizens joined in the effort to get a local chapter to provide education, advocacy, and a watchdog presence regarding separation of church and state issues.  We are a non-profit (501(c)3 organization.)  We officially became a chapter in June 2013, and have been hard at work since the forming stage.  We desire to make alliances across the state and build coalitions with like minded organizations, including faith communities who recognize the value of keeping religion and government separate.

Media inquiries welcome for interviews and issue commentary.

Report a Violation to American's United Legal Department

The community is our eyes and ears. Anybody who knows of, or witnesses a violation of the First Amendment separation of church and state can report the violation.

Report a Violation Through our litigation and non-litigation advocacy work, we actively fight to remedy violations of the separation of church and state. If you are aware of a government action that you believe violates the Constitution's requirement that church and state be kept separate, please

Before taking the time to report a violation of the separation of church and state, please review our examples and information about what does (and doesn't) constitute a violation.  Please visit the AU Report a Violation web site for full details.

Examples of violations:

  • An organization uses a government grant for religious activity.
  • A public school event includes prayer or a public school teaches creationism or intelligent design.
  • The government displays a religious symbol or text on public property.
